We took spot #27 on Time Out: New York's "Essential NY" list ("Hop the express to 101 people, places and things that make the city unique") Of course, it's kinda surprising that out of everything we did last year, they picked the FBI tribute. And the "more recent" show actually took place in the late 60's.

Downtown types who get nosebleeds above
14th Street will suffer massive hemorrhages
if they attend a Columbia football game way
uptown at Baker's [sic] Field. But it's
worth losing blood to see the marching
band's thoroughly demented halftime show,
which might be described as Merideth Monk
meets John Philip Sousa with a Groucho Marx
chaser. One highlight from last year was
their FBI tribute, complete with references
to Waco, Ruby Ridge and J. Edgar Hoover's
fondness for drag. Electric guitars and
amps took over the 50-yard line as the band
launched into the Ramones' "I Wanna Be
Sedated" for the finale. A more recent
spectacle had a birth-control theme and got
the crowd swallowing hot dogs to the tune of
"I've Got Rhythm." This year's final home
game is November 8 at 1 pm
